Welcome to Custer Baker Intermediate School!  The intermediate school was named in honor of Custer Baker who provided inspiration and dedicated leadership to the schools of Johnson County for 46 years as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent of schools. 

Originally in 1976, the building was constructed as a middle school and later in 2003 went through a major renovation.   In 2005, in response to a facility plan, the school board of trustees voted to configure the school district with K-4 elementary buildings, a 5/6 building, a 7/8 building and a 9-12 high school.  In the fall of 2008, Custer Baker Middle School transitioned to Custer Baker Intermediate School. 

Our school serves approximately 780 students in the combined fifth and sixth grades.   Custer Baker Intermediate merges our community of fifth and sixth grade learners for the first time to become official Grizzly Cubs. 

All the teachers share a commitment to provide the best possible learning experience for every child by adapting sound educational practice to the individual student’s learning style, strengths, and areas of needed growth.  Custer Baker Intermediate School offers a wide variety of educational programs.  These programs include, but are not limited to general education, special education, ESL, and accelerated learners. 

In addition, we provide extra-curricular activities for our students.  Fifth and sixth grade students have the opportunity to participate in Choir, Media Club, Aquarium Club, Student Council, Announcement Crew, Service Club, Afternoon Rocks and FCA.  Sixth grade students also have the opportunity to participate in Band, Golf, Soccer, Cross Country, Tennis, Basketball, Swimming and Diving, Cheerleading, Wrestling and Track.
